Criminal gangs are now stealing chocolate to order as rising cocoa prices turn sweets into a profitable black-market item. Shops across Britain say Easter stock is being targeted, with stolen chocolate allegedly resold through dodgy corner shops, pubs, markets and online. Retail workers say thieves are being given shopping lists, while some stores have been forced to move chocolate behind tills or add extra security. The report says soaring prices, weak deterrents and organised theft are all helping turn Britain’s shoplifting crisis into an even bigger national embarrassment.
