his Easter tradition is a controversial one. On Easter Monday, men go around with whips made of twigs with colourfull ribbons and beat women on their butts. The youthfulness of the twigs should make women "young and beautiful" until next year. For this, men will get painted eggs or alcohol. The whipping should be symbolic. But in many cases it's not. . While I only have one such experience, other women are stressed or fearful every year during Easter. I read about women having to lock themselves in a room all day so they wouldn't get beaten, about women feeling helpless and humiliated and getting bruises. Even some men feel uncomfortable with this whole thing. . Many men use as much force as possible. Some even take it as an opportunity to s3xually assault women by grabbing their butts. The fact that alcohol is a huge part of Easter in many villages doesn't help.... . I think tradition is one thing and cruelty is another. Consent should work ALL days of the year, no exception.
